Hello Friends! I'm so excited to share this with you; I'm busting at the seams and, if I'm honest, a little trepidacious. I've had this idea of creating a workshop for girls 9-13 called #beyourselfie for a very long time, and it is finally coming to fruition. I don't usually put this out there to the universe, but it is essential to this journey. With the uncertain times we continue to face, I genuinely believe it's my time to be vulnerable and share the "why" behind this passion. So, here goes! For over 28 years in the corporate world, I dreamt of owning a consulting company, having a brick and mortar location to fuel creativity, help individuals of all ages grow and exceed their goals, whether in life or business. But I was scared. Taking that risk seemed too far out of reach, and I had my babies to consider. So I pushed my dream to the back burner. In 2015 I left Corporate America to join my husband, Dave, in the world of entrepreneurship. Together we own and operate several businesses, including City View Dental, Restoration Harmony, and our event venue Harmony Hall. I've been blessed to utilize my experience and fuel my creativity as a small business owner and partner. After three years in our venue, that gnawing dream to utilize the space to help others consistently was still there. I wanted a haven where upon entering the building, one has permission to lay down their shields, be themselves, laugh, and learn. I wanted it to be a place to spark joy and happiness and help others build community. It would hit me at the oddest moments. Mostly when connecting with a customer, and we would #justbe, sharing our lives, being genuine and open in how we felt and what we were going through in life. Many of those individuals have become "my people," my go-to girlfriends, confidantes, and guiding lights in times of uncertainty. What a gift! So, I now had the skills, a building, an extensive professional network, a supportive husband and family unit, and lots of passion in my arsenal. Still, I did nothing! Then this thing called Covid hit, and I had a lot of alone time to think about the next steps. I embraced the days of quiet; I reflected on my passions, my gifts, and my opportunities. I realized I felt a little like Allie in the Notebook when she said. "I don't paint anymore…Most of the time, I have all these thoughts bouncing around in my head, but with a brush in my hand, the world just gets kinda quiet." I can't tell you how many times Dave tells me to "just paint" and references the movie. So, one day I decided to do just that. I busted out all my art supplies, canvases, paintbrushes, and more. I took them out of my windowless art studio and set up an easel in my office with natural light streaming in around me, and I painted! It was so cathartic; I hadn't felt this inspired or free from all the negative self-talk, keeping me from following my dreams. I couldn't help thinking that I wasn't the only one who felt like this. The next day I decided to take the bull by the horns. I dusted off my curriculum design skills, began researching, surveying, mind-mapping, and creating something unique and new to share with young women. I started #beyourselfie because every girl should be empowered to live their best lives in their way of expression, allowing them to break away from stereotypes and permit themselves to love themselves and others with confidence. I wanted them to remember to be brave, take risks, embrace failure, recognize fear, reflect, learn, and try again—never giving up! #beyourselfie is more than just a six-month creative outlet and exploration to #justbe. It's a commitment to continue to follow my passion for designing meaningful content for our customers, our fans, and our followers. ![]() and While I can't use my crystal ball to see what the future entails, I can guarantee that I will do my best for our community. I will strive to produce fresh, meaningful content that can be quickly transformed from a face to face experience in our newly renovated space to an engaging and fun, innovative learning opportunity online. After completing #beyourselfie, I was like butter. On a roll! I began work on two other curriculums, one for small business owners and an entrepreneurial mentor program for young people, both of which will launch later in 2021. I hope to continue to launch more, and I would love your help. If you have a topic that you feel is important to learn more about, let me know. If it isn't in my wheelhouse, I have a great network of friends who are professionals in their fields willing to help. Thank you all for indulging me, giving me the grace to be vulnerable, share my journey, and allowing me to #justbe me! Cheers, Angela To register click here.
