IDEAS

Creating a Boxwood Wreath from Garland

11/12/2018

I found these awesome chalkboards online (Dollar Tree online is my fav) and decided I needed to create something fun for Christmas. I loved the idea of combining a wreath and some handwriting but dang pre-made wreaths are expensive. I had some garland like THESE, lying around from another project and thought why not? As it turned out I got 3 wreaths out of one garland and a little extra left over for something else....I'm not sure what yet. Here is what you will need to create the entire project.

1 garland of your choice. I suggest hitting HOBBY LOBBY on a 50% off garland day for the best deals.
Wire like this one below. I bought mine at the hardware store. This is about the same gauge as a wire hanger so you could use those too although it takes a bit of work to mold the hanger into the shape of your choice.
Floral Wire. This is thinner and is easily hidden within the garland.
Wire Snips
Extra sprigs of florals or berries, you choose--the options are endless!
Ribbon
Hot Glue Gun
just because you should never be without one and who knows when you might need it. THIS one is our fav, and its cordless!

{If you want to make the entire chalkboard wreath you will need to buy a simple chalkboard in the size you want, some acrylic paint or stain for the frame, more ribbon and a stapler.}
1. Determine the size of wreath you want to make. Mine is about 12 in. around.
2. Cut your garland to size
3. Cut your wire about 4 inches longer than your garland.
4. Shape your wreath. Wrap the wire around itself about 2-4 inches. Square wreaths are always fun to make but take a smidge longer and a bit more patience. I use pliers to create the corners on a square wreath.

5. Once you have formed your wire wreath to its desired shape lay the garland on top of the wire.
6. Using  Floral wire wrap and tie the garland into place. I use 3-5 small pieces at varying places around the wreath.
7. Tuck your berry or floral sprays around your wreath. Again, tie with pieces of floral wire.
8. create a bow or wrap ribbon around the wreath. Use your glue gun to spot tack the ribbon into place.
9. To hang your wreath on a chalkboard. Cut another piece of ribbon long enough to drape over the back of the chalkboard and staple into place. For extra strength spot tack with your glue gun.

Note: For the above example, I hadn't added any words inside the wreath. Should you wish to do like the examples below you can do using chalk, {that can be wiped off so you can create new wreaths/designs throughout the year} or a chalk paint marker  that is permanent.
